Our Awesome Facilitators!
Joan Dohey is a retired primary teacher whose mission is to help others live healthier, fulfilled lives. Through life’s experiences, observation, and study, she has learned a great deal about health and healing on all levels. She has taken her passion for healing and studied and certified in modalities that address problems on the physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual levels. Joan knows from her own experience that recovering from an illness takes time and effort, and as a result, she embraces prevention and self-care to maintain good health. Her philosophy at its core is that taking care of oneself is crucial and her aim is to spread the word and help others discover and cultivate this attitude and to provide some tangible tools to use on an everyday basis. Over the past 10 years, Joan has become a practitioner of Bowen Therapy for people and animals, Reflexology, Reiki, Rahanni, McLoughlin Scar Release Technique and Soul Genesis, to mention some. Workshops
Letting Go and Letting In (Joan). Letting go of stress is maybe one of the most important skills we can learn. Stress is all around us and can affect every aspect of life. It is the underlying cause of many medical conditions and dissatisfaction. In this workshop, we will explore different techniques to release stress- among them: – Meditation: finding peace and calm inside yourself. – Yoga Nidra, where one brings attention to each part of their body, gradually releasing tension, head to foot. – Laughter Yoga: a series of exercises where the participant simulates laughter, so they get all the benefits of a good laugh. According to research, 10 minutes of laughter can provide 2 hours of pain relief! It is very contagious! And we will learn about and discuss letting in the good things we want from life. Receiving is very important, yet difficult for many, especially women, who give so much of themselves to others. The two most powerful words in the Universe are …Yes and No!
Living and Dreaming from the Heart in the Age of Aquarius (Alison). We are during a pivotal time in Earth’s history, foretold by the Ancients, when the people on the planet would be able to create a more just and humanitarian world for all. In this session you will learn about how we would accomplish this shift from 3rd to 5th dimensional consciousness through the power and intelligence of our heart. Living and dreaming from the heart helps you become more creative, more intuitive and accelerates your evolution. Together we will practice activating and strengthening the field of our hearts and accessing its native intelligence and connection to Source. These practices are contagious, so it’s guaranteed to transform your life, the world, and make us all so much happier and healthier!
Combo Workshop / Intro to Nia and Intro to Ageless Grace (Elaine). During the Nia portion of the workshop, we will explore the 52 movements of the Nia Technique with a focus on finding Dynamic Ease in our bodies – the ability to perform a movement with maximum efficiency and minimal effort. Reaching dynamic ease in our bodies allows a sense of neuromuscular creativity that allows us to do variations of movements without even thinking these movements are done with the focus on improving / maintaining flexibility, agility, mobility, strength, and stability.
During the Intro to Ageless Grace portion of the workshop, we will explore the 21 movements of this practice. Each of these movements stimulates the five main functions of the brain – strategic planning, memory and recall, analytical thinking, creativity and imagination and kinesthetic learning. These movements will be done seated in a chair and are guaranteed to bring a little joy and laughter from exploring these everyday movements that are natural and organic and focus on the healthy longevity of the body and mind.
The Wisdom of the Enneagram (Lucy). There are nine distinct personality types, nine different perspectives on life and nine ways our ego operates in our lives. We all have pieces of the whole nine but are dominant in a few. These are the patterns that shape our lives, explaining why we do the things we do, why we think the way we think. What number(s) are you? Join me in this workshop are learn more of why you do the things you do. Understanding our patterns, can change our lives.
Therapy is A Walk in the Woods (Alison). Join Alison, a certified Forest Therapy Guide, for a walk along the Exploits River. With no specific destination in mind, we will wander, explore, and immerse ourselves in nature for 2-l/2 hours, allowing our senses to guide us. Forest Therapy is a mindful, healing, and connective practice inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku” which translates into “forest bathing”. Spending time in nature strengthens our immune system, reduces stress, and makes us more creative, mindful, and happier. A win-win! Forest therapy walks are for anyone who wants to de-stress, slow down, relax and rejuvenate mind, body, and spirit. We will be outside no matter the weather, be prepared with warm and water-resistant clothing so you can enjoy the outdoors in comfort.
Real Tools for Self-Care, (Joan). Wellness comprises not just the physical, but the mind and spirit, as well. There are many ways to achieve wellness, and we are often bombarded by ads with suggestions as to how to attain it, to the point of overload! In the calm setting of this retreat, let’s explore some realistic ways to improve and maintain our health at every level. Let’s each create a practical plan for self- care that we can maintain! We’ll discuss food, exercise, stress relief techniques, and how to listen to your inner voice. Realistic, sensible self-care.
